Gold Price Hits an All Time High

The gold price hit an all time high today of $1045, closing at $1039.50, still over and above the previous record high of $1032.70 reached in March 2008.

I tend to think it’s going to hover and then drop, similar to the way it did last time around. Who knows though? It could just keep going and going.

For myself, I’m glad that I still hold plenty of nuggets. It’s not really a great time to unload nuggets, but it’s a good time for the patient seller.

Let’s discuss it on the Gold Prospecting Forum.

Gold Dredging Banned in California

SB 670 has passed and due to a two thirds urgency vote is effective immediately now that Gov. Schwarzenegger has signed it. So, for now, no more suction dredging in the state of California.

This ban will be in effect until the Department of Fish and Game can complete a study on how much it harms salmon.

Proponents of the bill wish to restore salmonĀ  and steelhead runs and claim that dredging sucks up salmon eggs and dislodges settled mercury.

I believe that the dredges collect more mercury than they “stir up”. I also believe this is the last day anyone legally suction dredges in California. Once they get it, it never comes back.
